First Aid & CPR Training

Develop the essential knowledge and practical skills required to provide immediate first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) during common medical emergencies and injuries. Our First Aid & CPR Training introduces learners to emergency assessment, basic first aid, CPR, automated external defibrillator (AED) use, choking management and appropriate responses to a range of emergency situations.

Through structured instruction, demonstrations and hands-on practice, participants develop the confidence and practical skills needed to recognise emergencies, provide appropriate initial care and support an ill or injured person until professional medical assistance becomes available.

First Aid & CPR Training – Course Overview

First Aid & CPR Training provides learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to recognise and respond appropriately to common injuries, sudden illnesses and life-threatening emergencies.

The programme introduces the fundamental principles of first aid, including scene safety, casualty assessment, activation of emergency medical services and the provision of immediate care while awaiting professional medical assistance.

Learners are introduced to appropriate first-aid responses for bleeding, wounds, burns, fractures, sprains, choking, shock and selected medical emergencies, together with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Through instructor-led demonstrations, guided hands-on practice and realistic emergency scenarios, participants develop the ability to assess casualties, prioritise immediate needs and provide appropriate first-aid interventions.

The training emphasises personal safety, early recognition of emergencies, effective communication, appropriate use of first-aid equipment and confident action within the limits of the responder's training.

Course Content

The First Aid & CPR Training programme covers the essential knowledge and practical skills required to recognise and respond appropriately to common injuries, medical emergencies and life-threatening situations. Core areas include:

1. Introduction to First Aid & CPR
Purpose and principles of first aid, responder responsibilities, limitations of first-aid care, personal safety and the importance of early intervention.

2. Scene Safety & Emergency Response
Assessing hazards, protecting the casualty and responder, infection-prevention precautions, recognising emergencies and activating appropriate emergency medical assistance.

3. Initial Casualty Assessment
Assessing responsiveness, airway and breathing, identifying immediate life-threatening conditions and determining priorities for first-aid intervention.

4. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Recognition of cardiac arrest, correct positioning, high-quality chest compressions, rescue breathing, compression-to-ventilation principles and minimising interruptions.

5. Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
AED preparation, safe pad placement, following device prompts, shock safety and integrating AED use with CPR.

6. Child & Infant CPR
Recognition of paediatric emergencies, age-appropriate CPR techniques, chest compressions, ventilation and considerations when using an AED.

7. Choking – Adult, Child & Infant
Recognition of mild and severe airway obstruction and appropriate age-specific first-aid responses for conscious and unresponsive casualties.

8. Bleeding & Wound Care
Recognition and initial management of external bleeding, wound protection, application of direct pressure, dressings and identification of situations requiring urgent medical attention.

9. Shock
Recognition of signs and symptoms of shock, appropriate positioning, monitoring, reassurance and provision of initial first aid while awaiting medical assistance.

10. Burns & Scalds
Recognition of common types of burns, immediate cooling and protection, precautions and identification of burns requiring urgent medical assessment.

11. Fractures, Sprains & Musculoskeletal Injuries
Recognition of suspected fractures, sprains and strains, principles of immobilisation, protection from further injury and appropriate referral for medical care.

12. Common Medical Emergencies
Initial first-aid responses to selected emergencies such as seizures, fainting, breathing difficulties, chest pain and other sudden illnesses.

13. Practical First Aid & CPR Scenarios and Skills Assessment
Hands-on CPR and AED practice, choking-management exercises, bleeding and wound-care activities, casualty-assessment scenarios and competency-based assessment of essential First Aid & CPR skills.

Practical First Aid & CPR Training & Activities
